Kearney, Nebraska

This third stop was only ninety miles from the last one. We moved on June 18th and had some great adventures there as well. The obvious choice in Kearney was the Great Platte River Archway that we are camping next to, but there is Fort Kearney State Historic Park, Sand Cranes, Harold Warp’s Pioneer Village, the American Museum of Speed and all sorts of other adventures to have and oddities to investigate..

Our leaders cooked us a mountain man breakfast in cast iron pots. It was hash browns, sausage, eggs and cheese layered together and served with a fresh salsa. Yum!

We all visited all sorts of various places the first day. We have folks who merrily Geo Cache, other who chase down antique shops or quilting places. Some who love exploring the town areas and discovering fun and funny places to eat.

One such adventure lead a group of us to eat at Runza, a fast food establishment only available in Nebraska. The Runza choice is a meat-cabbage-onion mixture cooked and served in a hot “bun”. Certainly nothing you’ve eaten before!

We’ll explore some more Kearney attractions in the next post.
