This is a continuation of our Kearney adventures. There is so much history in this area and lots to see and do. Our first choice was the Pioneer Village. This is a collection of stuff, lots and lots of stuff as well as a few buildings, automobiles, airplanes and kitsch.

This sign was actually part of the exhibit, it used to be out on the open road but was saved and placed in the Villiage. The day was really hot and we enjoyed the little village as well as about half the exhibits, then we were ready to hit the road back to camp for a relaxing afternoon.

The last major adventure in Kearney (pronounced Carney…?) was a visit to the Archway. The Archway is an exhibit of the Great Platte River Journey taken by so many pioneers. The unusual thing is that it runs OVER highway I80, created in 2000, it celebrates this area. You enter on one side and walk along amidst exhibits of life on the Platte River across the highway. There is a tower where you can spy on the automobiles on the highway. Fairly unusual exhibit!

We are starting to get a real feeling for the life of the pioneers and what they did each day. We can describe Nebraska in one work…corn! We haven’t been farther than a few miles off the Platte River for days. All in all we are much more comfortable than those pioneers were, soft beds, air conditioning, showers and all in one place.
