The road from Missouri to Nebraska is fairly flat, we are following the Oregon Trail as closely as we can but sparing ourselves the long walk, diseases and accidents that happened along the way for the Pioneers.
Today (June 15th) we stopped by the Homestead National Monument of America while enroute to the Double Nickle Campground. This is a tribute to those pioneers that made the voluntary trek across the entire country in hopes of finding a better life and a little bit of land. There are 20 rigs in our caravan, so when we visit a place the parking lot fills up in a hurry.

So many of the folks making the pioneer trip in a covered wagon were lured by the promise of land. There are homesteaders in most states, and the last homesteader Ken Deardorff got his patent for his southwestern Alaska property in 1988.

Double Nickle was a pretty campground and we have a couple of great musicians in the Caravan who love to entertain us. What could be more relaxing in the evening than good friends and good music?
